Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine 中医 zhōngyī is homeopathic - it looks at the entire person rather than just the symptoms. It uses the pulse as an indicator of health, and prescribes a variety of herbs, roots, and even animal parts as medicine. These are reduced and become a dark drink, taken twice a day.

In addition to herbal medicine, treatment may include acupuncture - inserting thin needles, sometimes with an electrical impulse, into specific points on the body, moxibustion - burning some herbs directly on the body, cupping - lighting a small flame in a glass cup that is then placed on the back and creates a vacuum, drawing out toxins, guasha - scraping a flat edge along the back to draw out the toxins, and/or massage.
